SONDRIO
The Province of
Sondrio confines to North and to West with Switzerland (
Canton Grigioni), to West with the province of
Como and the province of
Lecco, to South with the province of
Bergamo and to East with the province of
Brescia and with the
Trentino-Alto Adige (province of
Trento and of
Bolzano). It comprises the
Valtellina (except the Valley of
Poschiavo), thea Val
Chiavenna (except the
Val Bregaglia) and, further the alps, the
Val of
Lei (basin of
Reno) and the area of
Livigno (basin of the
Inn-Danubio).
Geography
The province of
Sondrio the most northern of the Lombardy, constitutes the alpine part of the region, with suggestive scenery and environment of high mountain. It is crossed by the
Valtellina, and is characterized by the valleys that arrives to it. Suspended between Lombardy and central Europe, the province of
Sondrio and the
Valtellina occupy a complete mountainous territory for the whole extension (3212 Kmq), situated between the 188 m of the trivio of Fuentes,at the top of the Lake of
Como, and the 4000 m of the
Bernina, offering a variety of sceneries and the practice of the mountain. The valley has a direction esat-west, characteristic to the one north-south of the whole alpine valleys.
How to arrive:
By car -
Sondrio isn’t touched by the motorway net. The link with the other cities iìof Lombardy is guaranteed by the S.S. 38 of the
Stelvio, which unities the city to the lake of
Como and to west continues towards Bormio to east.
By train - The rail line which touches
Sondrio continues the valley, where the
Adda flows, and then the State Road of the
Stelvio. Coasting the lake of
Como it reaches
Lecco and, from here, the main cities. Railway of State: Square
