COMO
The Province of
Como confines to North and to West with Switzerland (
Canton Ticino and
Canton Grigioni), to East with the province of
Sondrio and the province of
Lecco, to South with the province of Milan, to West with the province of
Varese. It has a part in Switzerland territory ( Common of
Campione of Italy).
Geography
The province of
Como from the physic point of view is very variegated, with mountainous zones (the highest top is the
Cardinello, 2.521 m), lake (the widest lake
Lario), hilly and plainly. In the central-northern part must be noticed for their acclimatizes and tourist importance: the Val of
Intelvi, the
Valcavargna, the
Valsolda and The
Vallassina. Besides the
Lario called lake of
Como, there are a lot of other basins completely or partially comprised in the province: the
Ceresio, or lake of
Lugano, the lake of
Mezzola, the lake of
Pusiano, the lake of
Alserio, the lake of
Montorfano and the lake of
Segrino. Besides
Como, the more important inhabited centres are:
Cantù,
Erba and
Mariano Comense.
How to arrive:
By car -
Como is reachable from Milan through the motorway A9. A dense net of roads crosses the area of the lakes and permits easy movements in the territory. Arrived at
Como is advisable leaving the car in one of the numerous parkings uot of the urban centre.
By train - Regional and interregional lines cross the entire Lombardy, guaranteeing a fast and diffuse service. The station of
Como is near the historical centre and this makes the train the suitable transport.
By airplane - The nearest airports to the city are the two of Milan ones, at about 50 Km: the
Forlanini of
Linate, which effects national and international flights, and the airport of
Malpensa, from which is possible effect intercontinental flights.
